Catfish Fishing

Today Jimmy and I found a glorious fishing hole out on Point au Sable. We first found it by rafting down Wequiock Creek this spring when the water was high, but it is much easier to get to by the access road by the Green Bay Yacht Club. We had to hop the fence with our poles.

We fish off the bridge which is the only high part in this very wet, swampy area. There are bullheads, catfish and sheepshead but that is really it; maybe one out of ten is a perch.

The catfish put up a great fight and take several minutes to reel in. They are at least a foot long. Our longest  catch was 19 inches and huge! With the right kind of preparation, they taste delicious. We are going back out tomorrow. What a great August this is!
